Cristina Materassi (b. 1997) is an artist, museum educator and art history teacher based in Turin. She is co-founder of the project Corrispondenze (2021–ongoing, with Boscaini and Materassi).
Her research moves along the threshold between visual and verbal narrative. Through site-specific interventions, drawing and counter-mapping, micro-publications, experimental forms of archiving and the use of language as a working material, she brings to light the tensions present in the spaces she moves through, understanding them as opportunities to rethink the places themselves and the structures that govern them.
Her practice is rooted in educational work and social and cultural design, and unfolds along a processual, participatory and relational dimension.
Interested in the politics of the urban fabric, its fractures and its modes of representation, she views artistic production both as a testimony to temporary experiences and, at the same time, as a tool for shifting and reassigning meaning to everyday language.
In a world shaped by the functionalization of space and organized according to logics of separation, artistic research — freed from the logics of productivity — can rethink the canons of reality, reintegrate practices of play, and give value to temporality, mobility, irony and imagination.
