Semi is the inaugural publication from Corrispondenze. The title reflects the metaphorical seeds embedded within the texts, which are intended to take root as readers engage with them. These seeds are poised to sprout into new ideas through the interconnection of stimuli and thoughts.
Semi explores the Turin region by narrating projects that examine space from various perspectives—artistic, anthropological, social, urbanistic, and naturalistic.
The publication is part of a publishing project that takes shape both as a printed space and a platform for connection. An ongoing investigation, founded on the principle of “correspondence” and aimed at highlighting the interconnections between human dwelling and the places that host it.
Reflecting on dwelling does not stop at the threshold of our homes nor is it confined within the walls of the city. It extends to the natural environment and the relationships we weave with it; it speaks of spaces, but also of the connections that bring them to life.

WHAT DOES IT MEANS FOR YOU INHABITING A SPACE?

Born and developed through practices of collecting, documenting, and sharing written words on dwelling, the Corrispondenze archive has shaped the idea of a series of publications, which we present in this first editorial project.
Centered around the question “What does it mean for you to inhabit a space?” this research aims to structure a shared reflection on the elements that allow each person to inhabit a place.
FAREspazio will be the graphic and critical presentation of the material collected during the implementation of the Corrispondenze project in San Salvario and Prali. These interventions, originating from a process of correspondence, will be presented here to continue a potentially endless exchange of ideas.
The purpose of this section is to stimulate critical reflection, starting from the presentation of the outcomes of artistic practices carried out in the Turin area.

Territory and Environment explores the relationship between human habitation and the environment that surrounds it—a relationship that takes concrete form in what we define as territory. This concept emerges from a delicate interplay of coexistence and correspondence among living beings, serving as a point of contact with otherness.
The Urban Herbarium project began in December 2021, coinciding for Simone Scardino with a residency at Progetto Diogene (Turin). The project stems from a desire to closely observe the species that coexist with us in the environments we recognize as part of our daily lives. Urban Herbarium aims to establish a dialogue with plants often labeled as weeds, “wanderers,” questioning to what extent humans share similarities with the condition of “pioneer plants”—species that inhabit environments unusual for their kind.

+ Making a World. Exploring Co-Presence in the Dora Area
Making a World presents a re-exploration of the Dora area, intertwined with an investigation of the concept of co-presence. The Dora River has been a crucial infrastructure for Turin, both from an economic-productive and a morphological-urban perspective. Beyond its superficial post-industrial identity, the Dora area reveals itself as a highly heterogeneous territory, a space with multiple “climates” that continuously negotiate their coexistence.

CONVERSATION WITH PROGETTORESCUE!

Progetto RESCUE! is a collective founded in 2019 to experiment with different formats that enable encounters to take place. It addresses socially relevant issues through a transdisciplinary and inclusive approach. The group bases its artistic practice on the transformative potential of art within the territory in which it operates.
ProgettoRESCUE!’s actions aim to build a social and artistic network that brings people closer to civic and cultural participation, allowing them to recognize and reconstruct the threads of an essential human fabric.
